Brite Spot is adding liquor too, and keeping the pie
Fans of longtime Echo Park diner the Brite Spot were heartened to hear of its robust return last year under new, local ownership. The classic diner had suffered from a slowdown in service hours and a more limited menu in recent years, but now is heading back towards the glory days of its 61-year lifespan, including late night weekend hours and lots of pie.
New owner Brooke Fruchtman and husband Jaime Turrey tell Eater that they are planning to bring back the restaurant’s late night hours as soon as this week. That means no more closing at 3 p.m. like years ago, or even 10 p.m., as has been the case more recently. Starting this Friday and running every Friday and Saturday evening, the Brite Spot will stay open until 2 a.m., and will run until midnight the rest of the week. The pair has also received approval from the city to stay open 24 hours, should they choose to expand even further down the line. And yes, the restaurant’s signature pies will be up and spinning in the case.
As for the rest of the food, chef Jaime (from Ostrich Farm and nearby Bar Calo) is currently working on new additions to the diner-classic menu, to be rolled out over the next several weeks. Even more surprising is the upcoming addition of a full liquor license, meaning cocktails will arrive at the restaurant sometime this summer. Until then, expect the return of late night hours starting this weekend.
