Seasoned London Chef Opens Eclectic Kebab Restaurant in Hollywood

Chicken tikka wrap at All Spice Hollywood

Justin Saunders brings 25 years of experience to this reasonably priced spot on Sunset Boulevard

A new Mediterranean kabab restaurant with international influences opened about a week ago in Hollywood called AllSpice from London chef Justin Saunders. With everything from chicken tikka wraps to Peking duck kebab to battered cod, Saunders draws on Caribbean roots and incorporates various Asian influences into a Middle Eastern fast-casual format. Saunders previously cooked at High Timber and Rowley’s restaurant in London, with decades of experience in fine dining situations.

The sort of melding of these kinds of flavors feels very much like a casual restaurant one might find in the UK capitol, boasting Jamaican rotisserie jerk chicken, veggie curry, and even meat loaf on a menu that seems less Cheesecake Factory and more Gordon Ramsay. It just might work in this section of Hollywood that tends to draw a Euro-centric crowd open to this kind of cuisine-agnostic dining.

Prices are decent too, with lunch wraps hovering around $10 and dinner plates ranging between $10 and $19 for a full Argentian-style steak with sides. And since this is Hollywood, there are a multitude of vegetable options like a “Big Ol’ Salad” chock full of greens, cucumber, red cabbage, sauteed mushrooms, and beans, while a cauliflower steak comes with a creamy cheese sauce to give it some rib-sticking heft.

Located across from Electric Owl and on the other side of the block from Cheebo, this part of Sunset is a bit of a tough spot for restaurants. With a wide menu and reasonable prices, AllSpice carries a good chance of capturing a slice of the neighborhood business. AllSpice is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, but is closed on Sundays.
