Violet does California French, and comes complete with a cooking school
Westwood’s dining prospects continue to improve, with news today of Violet, a leafy French-California bistro coming early next year to the neighborhood.
Violet is the work of Dana Slatkin, a longtime chef, blogger, and cookbook author based in Los Angeles. Slatkin had stints working in France and at the upscale Bouley in New York City before moving to LA and working at L’Orangerie. She also founded the Beverly Hills Farmers Market nearly 25 years ago, though of late she has mostly been working privately doing cooking classes and selling branded food products.
Now Slatkin is getting back into the saddle with Violet, the colorfully-named new Westwood entrant slated to open on Glendon Avenue sometime next year. As Toddrickallen notes there’s already some paperwork up in the windows that hint at the next iteration, but Eater was able to reach out to Slatkin for more details directly. She says that not only will Violet cook a variety of bistro basics for the neighborhood, it will also have an ample airy courtyard and on-site retail shop. The second floor of the space will be used as a cooking school. As for timing,
