Leadership Wisdom for Women in Business
The Critical Role of Self-Care in Effective Delegation
Q: As a recognized leader in real estate who manages multiple businesses, what's your most impactful advice for businesswomen regarding delegation?
Rosie Rodriguez: The most significant piece of advice I can offer is to take care of yourself. Women are naturally gifted at caring for others; it's part of who we are and how God made us. However, as we take on more roles, whether as wives, mothers, or caregivers for aging parents, we often forget about our own well-being.
You're the one people turn to for advice, support, and guidance. But if you're pouring from an empty cup, you have nothing to give. I learned this lesson firsthand during a challenging period when my daughter was ill. Despite having a supportive husband, who struggled to cope with the situation himself, I felt incredibly alone.
I prayed and said, 'God, just give me wisdom and strength.' The vehicle for finding that strength was creating time for myself. I started getting up at 4:00 a.m., working out, and going to church to pray. I realized that if I couldn't take care of myself, I wouldn't be able to be there for my daughter or my family. When you prioritize self-care, you develop the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual capacity needed to build a business, delegate effectively, and handle life's challenges.
Overcoming Challenges in Real Estate
Navigating Market Downturns with Purpose-Driven Leadership
Q: You've experienced significant growth in your career. Tell us about a time when you had to overcome self-imposed limitations to reach the next level. How did you manage that transition?
Rosie Rodriguez: The 2008-2009 financial crisis was a defining moment for me. Anyone in real estate knows how challenging those times were. I was financially secure and could have easily chosen to close down my businesses and wait out the storm. But then I heard this small voice reminding me that it wasn't about me. It wasn't even about my family; it was about the people I was meant to help and the impact I was supposed to make.
I had to tell myself, "Get up, put on your big-girl pants, and make it happen." That shift in perspective, moving beyond self-focus, was what enabled me to push through. Understanding that my purpose was bigger than my personal comfort made all the difference.
Building a Legacy of Impact
Rodriguez's steadfast character and genuine heart for people radiate through her approach in both her family and business. As a proud Mexican leader in real estate, her determination to continually rise above challenges hasn't merely fueled her personal success—it has become the heartbeat of an ever-expanding circle of over 2,000 agents. This is the beauty of the eXp business model: one introduction leads to another, creating a ripple effect that transforms individual connections into one big family. Through her initial spark of sharing the opportunity, she set in motion a chain of growth where each person welcomed becomes a welcomer themselves. This remarkable achievement stands as a compelling testament to the fundamental principle she lives by: that authentic success emerges not from pursuing personal advantage, but from creating lasting value for others while honoring your own well-being.
