Pia Toscano, L.A. STYLE Magazine’s 2020 Cover Star, Reflects on Her Dream World Series National Anthem Performance

For L.A. STYLE Magazine’s 2020 Entertainment Issue cover star Pia Toscano, the World Series represented far more than a performance. It was the realization of a dream she carried quietly and faithfully for years. Performing the national anthem on one of the world’s biggest stages was something she envisioned long before it came to pass.

Even now, in a heartfelt Instagram reel, she opens up about the emotion behind that unforgettable day, sharing that she is still “on a high on the World Series,” with the joy of that moment still echoing through her spirit.

Last year, she was avail-checked for the World Series, but the opportunity did not materialize. This year seemed to follow the same path. After weeks of silence, by Thursday, October 30th, she assumed the moment had passed again. She remembers telling herself, “I guess the World Series doesn’t need me again. I guess it’s not gonna happen. All good, I'm just so thrilled to be part of the conversation, and to even be a thought in their mind that I could maybe one day do the national anthem.”

Then everything changed within an hour. Her agent called to ask if she was available should the series advance to a Game 7. She was in Toronto at the time, yet without hesitation she replied, “I will make myself available.” Later that same evening, the official offer came through. By morning, she was already on a plane.

As the baseball world eagerly followed the unfolding series, the Los Angeles Dodgers pushed forward with the momentum that would ultimately crown them World Series champions. Pia arrived ready to honor that historic moment with a performance she had spent years preparing for.

Determined to be ready whether the game reached its final showdown or not, she flew out with two of her closest friends. Her husband rearranged his entire schedule so she could be there. Her manager flew out as well. “All the stars aligned, and it came true,” she says.

Still, nothing compared to stepping onto the field for soundcheck. The empty stadium. The echo of her voice. The weight of the moment settling in. “Walking onto that field and being in an empty stadium to soundtrack was like, okay, this is real. This is all happening, and it's so intimidating,” she recalls.

In that quiet moment she made a promise to herself. “The one thing I kept telling myself was you are not gonna let your nerves or any kind of overexcitement steal your joy in this moment. You’re exactly where you're meant to be. This is all happening for a reason, and you’re prepared for this.”

That steady reminder became her anchor. “I wanted to obviously sing the best version of the national anthem that I could possibly sing, and I didn’t wanna let my nerves overtake that opportunity.”

Her path to that field began in Los Angeles, a city she credits for shaping her artistry and resilience. “LA has always been such an important part of my journey. I lived there for 11 years. LA grew me,” she shares. During her time there, she performed for the LA Kings during their Stanley Cup victory run, sang for the Dodgers on opening day, and toured around the world with the legendary Andrea Bocelli. Every one of those moments built the foundation that prepared her for the magnitude of the World Series stage.

With deep gratitude, Pia reflects on the honor of receiving the call from the MLB and being trusted with such a defining moment. “I’m just forever grateful for that opportunity that the MLB called and that they trusted me with that moment, so I couldn’t be happier.”

A dream once deferred became a dream fulfilled. Perfect timing. Perfect alignment. And a moment Pia Toscano will carry with her forever.
